Playing Card Terms

  • Deck: A set of playing cards.
  • Court Card: A card that depicts a person, typically a king, queen, or jack.
  • Ace: The highest card in many games, often representing 1.
  • Pip: The symbols on the cards that indicate their suit and value.
  • Index: The small markings in the corners of a card that indicate its rank and suit.

Collecting Terms

MEXVGGFP

  • M (Mint / Sealed): Brand new, factory-sealed in original packaging.
  • EX (Excellent / Like New): Opened, but cards are in perfect condition and may still be in their original order. Minimal to no signs of use.
  • VG (Very Good): Lightly used and well-cared-for. The tuck case may have minor wear like soft corners or faint creases. The cards themselves are clean and crisp.
  • G (Good): Shows clear signs of use. The tuck case has noticeable wear (e.g., edge wear, scuffs) but remains intact. Cards might be slightly warped or softened.
  • F (Fair): Heavily used. The tuck case may have small tears, stains, or significant creases. Cards may show dirt or have minor damage.
  • P (Poor): Incomplete, heavily damaged, or has major flaws like large tears, water damage, or missing cards. Primarily a placeholder (filler) for a collection.
